Client calls and according to her on the phone has made all her images disappeare on her hard drive knowing the issues shes had with learning how to manage her photography on Lightroom and her hard drive i am expecting that she's deleted the lightroom catalog and her images are sitting right there on her raid storage set up that I built for her when we ordered the Macpro.

Sitting down at the computer I assure her that i am sure the images are right there and then stop cold. The raid drive Icon is missing from the desktop and in the open browser i see the drive isn't there.
My eyes just kinda freeze and all i can think of for a second is when I set this up the first time. One of the drives in the raid array had failed and we had to get a replacement, Now I am thinking the whole array has blown and i am fucked. i have backups of her material but rebuilding everything will be just a major pain.

I comment to the client mmmmmmm you didn't mention the raid array was missing
Client: oh yeah I forgot about that.

Me: you said on the phone your images were gone you didn't mention the whole drive being gone.

Client: wellll yes I forgot to mention that.

Me: big thing to forget ummm were you doing anything when this happened ?
well more than one file is missing for starters and this is a bit of a larger problem.

(I stop and think for a second and give rebooting the machine a try. The Macpro reboots and when I log in the raid array pops up and starts rebuilding itself).

Me: You ejected the raid array did you use the menu in the window to do that like I showed you on your external backup drive

Client no i was tired and moving some files on the desktop and I grabbed the Iconthingy and threw it in the trash but when i went looking for it in the trash it wasn't anywhere and I tried to use TmeMachine to find the missing file i was looking for.

Me: thats the original way you eject a disk on Mac's, you toss it in the trash and it ejects works for hard drive external and dvd/cd's.

Client: OH I didn't know.

Me: Please go and make me some coffee Im gonna just sit here and try very hard to not burst out laffing .

4 hours letting the raid rebuild before I make changes, remove all her images and catalogs cleaning up all the mistakes shes made in not listening to me about how to manage her files thru lightroom (Little problem of if you organize them on the hard drive after importing them. lightroom dont know where your files are until you tell it where you moved them).
Reimport all her images give her uber lesson on importing and using the import tool in light room to do the initial sorting and then how to make folders and resort in a more granular fashion.

Fixing Raid issue and rebuilding her lightroom setup from the ground up plus class on how to manage and import photos 8 hours @ $75 per.
At this rate i can buy my own MacbookPro

Shes a student at IFC and a lot of her confusion comes from all of her instructors having a different half assed management scheme for managing and backing up there files.
(You do not use collection in lightroom to manage your backups)

I think IFC needs me to teach a course in file management and Image backup.

Just saying ;-)

Oh and my cousin is going back into the hospital kidney problem now.

Have a fun day
